SCR1 Wind Tunnel Testing at Ontario Tech University

Welcome to the Scalar Performance +Pole Newsletter for April 2023.

In this months issue, we take you behind the scenes of the SCR1
- Testing in the Wind Tunnel of Ontario Tech University
- On top of the Öhlins USA Shake Rig in North Carolina
- Provide you updates on the SCR1 Prototype #2 from Utah
- Introducing the Scalar 2023 Team Driver

TESTING SCR1 AERO IN THE WIND TUNNEL

The SCR1 prototype #1 went for extensive wind tunnel aerodynamic testing at the Ontario Tech University. This wind tunnel testing not only allowed the Scalar Performance team to gather important data for optimizing the aerodynamics of the race car, but also allowed students from Ontario Tech University to learn from this experience as part of their class. A select group of students were present in the wind tunnel with the Scalar Performance development team to observe the SCR1 being put to the test.

The Ontario Tech ACE Climatic Wind Tunnel is one of the most sophisticated of its kind in the world. It can recreate climatic condition from blizzards of -40 Celcius, freezing rain, light snow, wind speed of 300 km/h, to solar capabilities up to +60 Celcius.

Given that aerodynamics are an important factor in the development of an electric race car and its impact on the battery range, the wind tunnel was a key milestone in the performance development of the SCR1 all-electric race car.

ÖHLINS USA ULTIMATE SUSPENSION TEST

After the wind tunnel testing, the SCR1 prototype #1 travelled to North Carolina in United States to have its suspension tested and adjusted at the Öhlins USA facility. The engineers at Öhlins put the SCR1 to the test on their Vehicle Dynamic Simulator (VDS), commonly referred as the "Shake Rig".

The VDS replicate the suspension movements seen by the car at the race track. It also simulate track surface, such as roughness, bumps, curbs, load from aerodynamics, banking, and load transfer due to cornering, braking and accelerating.  It allowed the Scalar Performance development team to analyze and optimize the vehicle performance in real time.

THE SCR1 PROTOTYPE #2 IN UTAH FOR UPDATES

The SCR1 Prototype #2 travelled to Utah to visit our partner Hypercraft USA HQ. It's going through some updates such as adding a new inverter to extract the maximum power from its electric motor and receiving its brand new battery pack at Hypercraft's facility located in Provo (UT).

FORMULA WOMAN WINNER ALANA CARTER TO DRIVE FOR SCALAR PERFORMANCE

Scalar Performance will team up with Canadian race car driver Alana Carter to drive the SCR1 for the 2023 racing season. The native of Fort Saskatchewan started dirt racing before eventually transitioning into circuit racing. In 2022, Alana won Formula Woman, an international competition in the United Kingdom where the winner received a spot on the Formula Woman Team competing in the British GT Cup Series. She will split her driving time between her British GT Team in the UK and Scalar Performance in the USA.
