UTAH REGIONAL EVENT HOSTED BY NASA UTAH

On the weekend of August 26, the Scalar Performance team headed to Utah Motorsports Campus to participate in a Utah regional event hosted by NASA Utah with the SCR1 all-electric touring race car. The team was accompanied by their official driver, Alana Carter, and competed in Super Touring 2 class. The weekend was a successful learning and development experience, the team was able to solve battery thermal issues, thanks to their new chiller plates by PWR, allowing the battery to stay cool the whole time they were out racing.

DYNO TESTING WITH REVOLTING PERFORMANCE

On Monday, September 18, the Scalar Performance team took the SCR1 to its very first dyno testing at Utah Motorsports Campus with Revolting Performance. Jordan, owner of Revolting Performance, has been in business for 15 years working on ICE cars, however this was the very first time he strapped an electric car to his dyno. Many firsts called for a lot of learning for both Revolting Performance and Scalar Performance. The purpose of the testing was to test motor cooling, and other battery cooling strategies, by running over the car under continuous load, and collecting data using thermal guns, sensors, etc.

Halfway through testing, the team had to take a break because the dyno's eddy current load generator turned BRIGHT RED; the SCR1's motor has so much torque that it was overpowering the dyno's ability to generate load. We've learned we need to make sure the dyno has advanced cooling strategies to match the SCR1's advanced cooling! All in all, the testing was very successful, the team was able to pick up data points that could not be captured on track, and will now comb through this data and continue to build the best performing car possible.

PREPARATION FOR SEMA

As time flies by, and the Scalar Performance team travels back and forth from Canada to Utah, working closely with Hypercraft; preparation for Sema has begun. The team will exhibit the SCR1 all-electric amateur touring race car in the SEMA FutureTech Studio this year! More information on SEMA coming soon.
